WebXR Set Design and Cueing 2.0:
Active Replica (a webXR events startup), and OnboardXR (a webXR theater festival), gave me the opportunity to upgrade an immersive performance from a previous festival almost a year ago. The original version was a was developed with workshop students as part of VRTO 2021, and when it joined the OnboardXR lineup for the second festival soon after, it was used as a first test of the newly developed theater cueing system, (which was eventually used as a teaching tool for my VR theater class at NYU). The performance combined Animation, Puppetry and Improvisation into an interactive piece of theater that was very well received by audiences. This new version has had a design overhaul by the incredible active replica design team, and I feel the visual aspect of this show now finally matches the innovation of the cueing it was originally designed to test. I am incredibly excited to use this next draft as a teaching example for my VR theater students at York and Leeds University next year. I can’t thank Active Replica and OnboardXR enough for developing this test into a fully fledged 25 minute interactive work of theatrical immersive design, and proving that webXR is the future of events! This show opens today, the 17th, and closes the 20th. Tix are limited, grab them here: MAGID eventbrite
